Dynamic programming suffers from the curse of dimensionality: an exponential growth of computational requirements as the problem size increases. This has led to extensive work over the last twenty years on the methodology of approximate dynamic programming or reinforcement learning, which is based on various types of approximations and simulation, and can deal with problems of very large size. In this talk, an overview about these methodologies is introduced.
讲座人介绍：
Dimitri P. Bertsekas，MIT电子工程与计算机科学系教授。1971年获MIT电子工程博士学位。1984年当选IEEE Fellow，2001年当选美国工程院院士。
Dimitri P. Bertsekas教授曾任SIAM J. on Control, SIAM J. on Control and Optimization, Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, Computational Optimization and Applications编委。并曾获得2001年度美国控制协会 J. Ragazzini教育奖。
Dimitri P. Bertsekas教授的研究涵盖了优化、控制、大规模计算、数据通信网络等领域，许多研究具有开创性贡献，是该领域最杰出的学者之一。
Dimitri P. Bertsekas教授十分注重其研究所涉及领域的推广和教育工作，他是“Nonlinear Programming”、“Dynamic Programming and Optimal Control”、“Constrained Optimization and Lagrange Multiplier Methods”、“Convex Analysis and Optimization”等十余部专著的主要作者，其著作的大部分被用作MIT的研究生或本科生教材，并被相关研究者奉为经典。
